16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.
19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 1:16-21
I hear it a lot in this generation: “The scriptures were written by men who made them up for their own personal gain, etc.” That couldn’t be further from the truth. Verse 21 of our text makes it clear that these holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
These men wrote in different centuries and some in different millenniums and in various styles depending on where they were and what God was doing in the world at the time. But God’s hand protected His Word, keeping it true and sending it out with power to fulfill His purpose.
So great is God’s word that the very reading and speaking from it is more powerful than His miracles which show forth His glory. (v.17-18)
God’s Holy Word is absolute truth. The Holy Bible will prove itself true from book to book starting with Genesis and ending with the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ. You cannot take a verse by itself and make a doctrine. That is a private interpretation. (v.20) If it is true in Genesis it will be true in the other 65 books also. It never fails, God’s Word always runs true!
